Stalin Govt to pass resolution against controversial farm laws

Chennai: Keeping up with his poll promise, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Wednesday said that his government would bring a resolution in the state assembly demanding the repeal of the three controversial farm laws passed by the Centre last September.

The three laws, Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020, and Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020, have been met with severe opposition from the farmers who allege them to be an attempt at privatizing the agriculture sector and doing away with Minimum Support Price (MSP).

Stalin recounted that farmers have been agitating against the laws for six months now and added that it is worrying that the Union government did not try to have a constructive dialogue with the farmers to resolve the issue or take steps to repeal the three laws.
