Unable to port Jio Sim cards: Farmers protest

New Delhi: Farmers agitating against the Farm Bill have claimed that their attempt to boycott Ambani's Jio network by moving to other networks are being sabotaged as the company is not allowing them to port Jio sim cards.

Farmers had begun to boycott corporates like Reliance, Adani Group and Ambani Industries in order to draw the Central Government's attention to their protests, which they feel are being ignored. To this effect, many even abandoned their original phone numbers to switch to other networks.

The Kisan Ekta March had posted screenshots on Twitter alleging that their attempt to port sim cards via the Mobile Number Portability service was being blocked by Jio Care.

Earlier, farmers in Punjab had cut off the power supply to more than 1,300 Jio towers as part of protests. The fibres in some of the towers have also been cut and replaced. Protests intensified after December 25.

Gurudwaras in Punjab have also been campaigning via their systems of public address to boycott Jio services.
