Five days after appointing Shreeyash Lalit as its senior panel lawyer to the Supreme Court, the Uttar Pradesh government on Monday deferred the decision.

The son of Chief Justice UU Lalit was picked to the post on September 21.

The three other lawyers besides Lalit to be kept in abeyance from appointing to the position include Priti Goyal, Namit Saxena and Yasharth Kan.

After graduating from Faculty of Law at Delhi University in 2017, Lalit went on to earn his masters from the University of Cambridge in 2018.

Lalit's father, Justice Uday Umesh Lalit succeeded Justice NV Ramana on August 27 to become the 49th chief justice of India on August 27.

Justice UU Lalit's tenure as chief justice is short as he is due to retire on November 8, Scroll.in said.

The Allahabad High Court pointed out in May that there are more than 400 empaneled lawyers in Uttar Pradesh.
