Kanpur: A man in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur murdered his son for turning off the television when he was watching the World Cup final on Sunday.

Ganesh Prasad was wholly engrossed watching at home the final match between India and Australia when his son, Deepak, requested him to cook dinner.

As the father paid no attention to his request, Deepak turned off the TV triggering an argument.

The argument quickly led to physical fight and Ganesh who was drunk strangled his son with a mobile charger, the NDTV reported citing the police.

After the extreme act, Ganesh fled the scene whom the police later arrested.

A relative of the duo found Deepak’s body lying on the stairs, according to the police.

Brij Narayan Singh, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in-charge of Chakeri police station, confirmed the accused used mobile charging cable for the murder.

Police said that the father and the son used to get drunk and fight with each other.

Deepak's mother left the home last week after he had beaten her up.
