Uttar Pradesh progressing well in law and order: PM Modi claims

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh was once known for gangsters and poor law and order but is now progressing rapidly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi claimed on Sunday.

But on the basis of what data the PM reached, the conclusion is a curious fact. A February 21 report by Ground Report, which cited the National Crime Records Bureau data, suggested that Uttar Pradesh has a per capita crime rate of 7.4, and the ratio means the state has the highest number of crimes. The state remains the most unsafe place to travel alone, the report suggested.

"There was a time when Uttar Pradesh was known for the mafia and a poor law-and-order situation. Today, it is known for better law and order and as a state that is progressing rapidly," PM Modi claimed.

The Prime Minister was addressing a function in Lucknow, where appointment letters were distributed to more than 9,055 sub-inspectors of police, platoon commanders of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and firefighters. PM addressed the programme through a video message.

The event was attended by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak and Finance Minister Suresh Khanna, among others, PTI reported.
