Video shows SC-elderly-woman being tied and thrashed mercelessly

Bhopal: A new video surfaced on social media showed an elderly woman, hands tied behind, getting thrashed in public. The incident happened in Madhya Pradesh's Khargone district, and the woman is of Scheduled Caste community, NDTV reported.

The video showed the woman being given water from a metal cup while her hands were visibly tied behind her with a rope.

The victim had registered a police complaint saying that certain people in her neighbourhood picked a fight with her for no reason and verbally abused her using casteist slurs.

According to the woman, her neighbour Ganesh came to her house inebriated and started verbally abusing her on Friday. Following him, his wife and mother also came to her house and dragged her out. They tied her hands behind her back and thrashed her, she said.

Police have registered a case naming a man and woman and charging them with provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The act severely punishes ill-treatment of the said communities.

The woman lives alone in her house in the village of Hirapur, and her son is a labourer in Indore. According to her, Ganesh had verbally abused her scores of times before since he did not want her living in the village since she is of Scheduled Caste.
