Woman hit & dragged to death: court grants 7th accused bail

New Delhi: Ankush Khanna, the seventh accused in the case of 20 year-old-girl being hit and dragged to a brutal death by a car in Delhi, has been granted bail by a Delhi court, IANS reported.

Khanna was accused of tampering with evidence in the horrendous incident where the girl, whose body got tangled in the underside of the car, was dragged some 12 km in the early hours the New Year's Day.

Khanna was booked by Delhi Police under Sections 201 (disappearance of any evidence, with the intention of screening the offender from legal punishment) and 212 (harbouring offender) of the Indian Penal Code. He was granted bail on a personal bond of Rs 20,000.

Police have arrested six others, Ashutosh, Deepak Khanna, Amit Khanna, Krishan, Mitthun and Manoj Mittal and are in police custody.

In the gruesome incident, Anjali (the deceased), along with her friend Nidhi was returning home after a party at a hotel in Rohini when her scooty was hit by the car at around 2 a.m. She was then dragged for several kilometres by the car, and her naked body was found lying on the road in the Khanjawala area at around 4 a.m. by a passerby, who informed the police.

Ankush, who was on the run after his name popped up during the investigation, had surrendered at Sultanpuri police station on Friday evening.

Deepak Khanna was the only person with a driving licence, and others asked him to take the blame even though he was not inside the car. He had brought his uncle's auto-rickshaw to take the other accused to their homes.

Sources informed that Amit Khanna, Krishan, Mitthun and Manoj Mittal were the four inside the car when it hit Anjali.
