Yediyurappa's son might contest against Siddaramaiah in Karnataka

Bengaluru: Former chief minister of Karnataka hinted on Thursday that his son might contest against Congress veteran Siddaramaiah, NDTV reported.

The Congress has fielded Siddaramaiah, also an ex-CM, in the Varna seat of Mysuru. Siddharamaiah's son Yathindra is the sitting MLA in the said seat.

Yediyurappa stated that there are high-level discussions going on about whether BY Vijayendra will be fielded in Varuna against the Congress veteran. This is amid Yediyurappa's fight against reservation issue, as the poll is just over a month in the state.

At an emergency press conference in Bengaluru, Yediyurappa claimed that the Reservation quota for Lingayats and other communities was justified and there was no injustice done to Muslims. Muslims will now get a reservation in the Economically Weaker Sections, he said.

Yediyurappa talked about the new reservation breakup after he faced severe protests against the Bommai government's new decision about it. Hundreds of protestors belonging to Banjara and other backward sections threw stones at Yediyurappa's house in Shivamogga.

In addition to the reservation breakup, the cabinet had increased reservations for the Schedule Caste community from 15% to 17% in jobs and education. Also, it introduced internal quotas.

Later he claimed that the Congress party would not cross 70 seats in Karnataka this time. Meanwhile, state Congress chief DK Shivakumar is confident that his party will win 150 seats in the 224-seat Assembly.
