Hyderabad: Zaheeruddin Ali Khan, a revered name in socio-political circles and managing editor of The Siasat Daily, breathed his last on Monday during poet-activist Gaddar’s funeral procession in Alwal.

Zaheeruddin Ali Khan was involved in the socio-political realms, particularly in the regions of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, where he played a pivotal role in the Telangana statehood movement.

As the managing editor of The Siasat Daily, Khan wielded his pen to champion accountability in politics and to shed light on the wrongdoings of various political parties. His courageous and unapologetic critique often pushed the boundaries of traditional journalism.

Beyond the realm of journalism, Khan's legacy extended into philanthropy. His Siasat Millat Fund, which donated Rs 4 crores, supported over 22,000 underprivileged students across states. He established the Abid Ali Khan Trust in 1994, initiating initiatives to ensure the education and well-being of marginalized children.

He also ventured into various charitable endeavours, from providing free healthcare to slum dwellers in collaboration with corporate hospitals to empowering underprivileged women through vocational training.

His dedication to communal harmony was evident in his relentless efforts to help victims of violence, particularly those affected by Hindutva assaults and mob lynchings. He was instrumental in raising funds for families devastated by tragic incidents, including the Nasir and Junaid case and the Bihar floods.

Telangana's Chief Minister praised Khan's invaluable contributions to Urdu journalism and his instrumental role in the Telangana movement. Condolences have poured in from political leaders across the spectrum, reflecting Khan's ability to bridge divides.

Zaheeruddin Ali Khan's funeral will take place on Tuesday, August 8, after Fajr prayers at Shahi Masjid, Public Gardens. His burial will be held at the ancestral graveyard, Aakhirat Manzil, Darussalam Road, Nampally.
