Lahore: The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for a suicide bomb attack on the Pakistani-Indian border near the Pakistani city of Lahore on Sunday which killed at least 45 people.

"We claim the Lahore suicide attack," senior commander Gilamn Mehsud said.

The attack was carried out in response to the Pakistani army's operation against Islamist militants in the tribal areas straddling the Afghan border, he said.

Meanwhile, the death toll in the horrific suicide attack climbed to 61 Monday, even as security agencies arrested about 20 suspects from the Indo-Pak border area.

The blast took place when a large number of people were returning after attending the flag lowering ceremony at the main Indo-Pak land border crossing, which is heavily guarded by the Punjab Rangers.
