Young media person Husna Jemsith bags Sri Lanka’s prestigious media award

Colombo: Young media person M. H. F. Husna Jemsith of Thinakkural newspaper has received this year’s annual journalism award for excellence in Sri Lanka.

The award program, organized annually by The Editors’ Guild of Sri Lanka (TEGOSL) and the Sri Lanka Press Institute (SLPI), is aimed at recognizing and rewarding excellence in the field of journalism.

The awards program was first begun by The Editors’ Guild in 1998.

Husna was honoured as the best performing journalist in the year. She is also the recipient of the Subramaniam Chettiar Award for Social Development Journalists of 2009, Upali Wijewardene Best Features Journalist award of 2011, and Award of Excellence for Features Journalist of 2013, apart from other media honours.

Daughter of Moulavi M.Z.M. Hussain, Principal, Ihsaniya Arabic College, Colombo, Husna is married to Sheikh Jemsith Azeez (Naleemi), Editor in Charge, Alhasanath Islamic Monthly.
