In one attack, three civilians and one Afghan Local Police (ALP) personnel were killed when a bomb was detonated by the roadside in Mehtarlam city, the provincial capital of eastern province of Laghman, the provincial government said in a statement.

Following the blast, which occurred at around 8.30 a.m., police launched an investigation and arrested a suspected militant, the statement noted.

In another incident, a child was killed in a bomb attack in Jalalabad city, the provincial capital of neighbouring Nangarhar province, a security source said.
