Kalpeni Island: Kalpeni Island here came under heavy rains and gusty winds stirring up the seas as cyclone Maha made landfall on the island on Thursday.

The winds razed down trees causing damage, residents are waterlogged and people in coastal areas have been evacuated to safer places.

Indian Navy and Lakshadweep administration are working together to ensure the safety of people and material.

Six ships and two aircraft, deployed by Indian Coast Guard, are working to rescue stranded fishing boats, while taking care of relief operations.

Cyclone Maha may intensify into a severe cyclone over the Lakshadweep area and into a very severe cyclone over the East-Central Arabian Sea by Friday and Saturday, reports ANI
