IPL: After Shardul Thakurs heroics, Virat Kohlis tweet goes viral

After the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) made a dominating win for 81 runs, crushing the Royal Challengers Banglore (RCB), what caught in the wind of social media was an old Tweet by Virat Kohli, who is in the latter.

After losing five wickets when the score was at 89, all-rounder Shardul Thakur, the star of the Thursday match, entered to score a whopping 68 from just 29 balls, adding 109 runs in the sixth wicket with Rinku Singh. Shardul was audacious enough to smash nine boundaries and three over the fences. Thus, KKR posted a target of 204 runs at Eden Gardens on the day.

Thakur received heavy applause on social media, and among them surfaced the 2019 tweet by Kohli, which said, 'Tula Maanla re Thakur'.

More recognised as a bowler from Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings, Thursday was not the first time where he showed his abilities with a bat. He has produced some excellent cameos with the bat for the Indian team, too, particularly in Test cricket.

The said tweet was when Shardul played a remarkable role in a match against West Indies in 2019, bringing victory to India. The tweet meant, "Hat's off to you, Thakur", NDTV reports.

Now the tweet gathers significance because Kohli was playing against Thakur.

Thakur said about his performance after the match that even he is not sure how he churned out such a performance when his team was reeling. Though players need the skill to produce such performance, KKR had worked hard in nets too. He added that the pitches backed the batter there.
