Jayachandran Mokeri released from jail

Kochi: Jayachandran Mokeri, a teacher from Kerala who had been imprisoned by the Mali government since the past 8 months for allegedly abusing a student, was freed Thursday.

Jayachandran, an english teacher who was in Maldives since 2007, was arrested and put behind bars on allegations of abusing a student in his class.

The student had later withdrawn the complaint, but Jayachandran was not released.

Jayachandran's wife Jyothi along with BJP State President V Muraleedharan had earlier met External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to press for his release.

Muraleedharan told PTI that Jayachandran was released this evening and had taken a flight to Bengaluru from Maldives.
