Thiruvananthapuram: Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala Monday has said in the Assembly that the Kerala police are fully geared and ready to tackle the Maoist threat.

“The Kerala police are fully geared and ready to tackle them. We will held talks with our Tamil Nadu and Karnataka counterparts as part of the move against the Maoist threat,” the Home Minister said.

A gunfight broke out Sunday in a forest in Kerala's hilly Wayanad district between the state police's anti-Maoist Thunderbolt unit and the left-wing rebels.

Following this gunfight, additional police forces was rushed to the area.

Speaking on the incident, Chennithala Sunday had said things were absolutely under the control of police and there was no need for any panic or fear

The Kerala Police have been maintaining a close watch in the tribal areas as these were the places that the Maoists used to frequent. Two companies of the Thunderbolts are camping in the forest area.
