Thiruvananthapuram: The birth centenary of eminent jurist and Supreme Court former judge Justice V R Krishna Iyer was celebrated at his residence, Sadgamaya, here on Thursday.

As per the Malayalam calendar, his star birthday falls today, while his actual birth date is November 15.

The celebrations was organised by the International Interfaith Dialogue India (IIDI), Kerala.

Prominent personalities from various fields, including M.D Nalappat, O. Abdurahiman, Madhyamam- Media One TV group editor, Prof. M.K Sanu, Justice P.K Samshudheen and Fr Albert attended the function.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has wished Krishna Iyer on his 100th birthday.

"Warm birthday wishes to an icon in Indian public life, Justice V.R. Krishna Iyer as he turns 100. I pray that he is blessed with good health," Modi said in a tweet.

He said: "Justice Iyer's life and works are an inspiration to all of us. My interactions with him have been very enriching. I learnt a lot from him."

A former Supreme Court judge, Krishna Iyer was a minister in the first communist government in Kerala and the CPI-M's candidate for the presidentship of India in 1987. He is also a civil rights activist.
