Special prayers, c'tions planned for canonisation of Fr Chavara

Kochi: Special prayers and elaborate celebrations are being planned in the State by the Catholic church in connection with the cannonisation of Father Chavara Kuriakose Elias and Mother Euphraisa at the Vatican on November 23.

Special prayers will be held at Mannanam, Koonamavu and Ollur on Nov 23 while a thanksgiving Holy Mass will be held at Kakkanad on Nov 29, Syro Malankara Catholic church Cardinal Baselius Cleemis said.

While the Vatican considers Mannanam as the final resting place of Father Chavara Kuriakose, the faithful still flock to Koonamavvu, where he spent the last years of life. Ollur is the resting place of Mother Euphraisa.

Cardinal Mar George Alenchery, Syro Malabar Major Archbhisop will be the main celebrant at the mass.

Union Home minister Rajnath Singh is likely to attend the celebrations.
