Thiruvananthapuram: The government Monday decided to suspend senior IAS officer and former Pathanamthitta Superintendent of Police Rahul R Nair for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 17 lakh from some quarry owners to reopen closed quarries.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala Monday signed the file for suspension of Rahul, a spokesperson at the Home Minister's office said here.
The suspension follows a preliminary departmental probe which found the charge to be prima facie true.
The charge was that Nair, now serving as Malabar Special Police commandant, had accepted Rs 17 lakh bribe from quarry owners when he was SP of Pathanamthitta to reopen closed quarries.
The issue came to light after some quarry owners filed a complaint against Nair.
