Kumaly: The district administration has taken precautionary measures to face any emergency situation as the water level in the Mullaperiyar dam stood at 141.6 feet on Wednesday.

The flow of the seepage water from the dam increased to 150.16 litres per minute on Tuesday. It was 144.4 per minute on Monday.

The officials cited heavily rains in the catchment area for the rise in the water level.

The five-member Mullaperiyar sub-committee chaired by U H Gireesh, Kerala’s representatives George Daniel and N S Praseed and Tamil Nadu’s representatives Madhavan and Soundarrajan visited the dam. The committee would hold a meeting if the water level touches the 142 feet mark.

The apex committee on Mullaperiyar headed by LAV Nathan will visit the dam on November 24. Nathan had had earlier warned Tamil Nadu against the indiscriminate rise of water level in the dam without any concern for safety of the dam and people.
