Vadakara: Three primary school students drowned in a pool near a water-filled paddy field near the Thayyil temple at Onchiyam, Vadakara, Kozhikode district, on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Aflah Shahal, 10, son of Ashraf, Uraalassery House; Mohammed Rizwan, 11, son of Rayeez Puthiyottumkandi, and Mohammed Ajmal, 8, son of Navathumpeedikayil Musthafa.

The children had gone to play in the paddy fields at around 11 am. The locals and the relatives of the boys launched a search as they did not return even after 2 pm. Some people noticed the dress and sandals of the children left near the paddy field and they alerted the other people.

The police and Fire and Rescue Services personnel rushed to the spot and fished out the bodies by around 4.30 pm.
