Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy Monday asked district collectors to intensify tax collections to increase revenue.

Inaugurating the two-day meeting of district collectors and department heads, he said district collectors have a vital role to play in increasing tax collections.

Steps should be taken to collect tax and effort should be put in to expedite the legal steps in connection with the cases in court, he added.

Chandy said welfare pensions should be made available to the deserving as the main motto of this government is "development and care".

He also said that due to problems associated with land acquisition many Centre sponsored projects were not implemented in the state.

"This is creating a huge crisis in construction sector and collectors should also take steps to resolve this", he said.
