Kozhikode: The Special Additional Sessions Court (Marad cases) on Tuesday acquitted a man of the charge of murdering an aged woman, Sundariamma, at Vattakkinar on the outskirts of the city more than a year ago.

Jabbar aka Jayesh aka Babu, 28, of Nedumpurayil House, Kallayi, was acquitted by the court in the case.

The court, which found that the case was a concocted one, also slapped a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the Crime Branch team which probed the case and Kasaba police officers and asked them to give the money to the accused.

The Kozhikode Crime Branch (Hurt and Homicide Wing) had arrested him on the charge of murdering Sundariamma, 69.

Sundariamma was murdered at her Chirakkal Lane house around 2 am on July 21, 2012 and the murderer was suspected to have entered the house by removing the roof tiles.

She was living alone in the house after her daughter was married off. She used to sell food items at Vattakkinar for a living besides running a money lending business for some time.
