Kozhikode: In a bid to end recurring incidents of political violence in Kannur district, the state government would deploy more police force, including Quick Response Team, in sensitive areas, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala Thursday said.

Besides, police intelligence would be strengthened and frequent raids, with the support of local party leaders, will be conducted to unearth weapons, used in attacks, he told reporters after chairing a meeting of political parties in Kannur Collectorate.

The meeting was held in the backdrop of the killing of a 36-year-old CPI(M) worker in a country-made bomb attack by unidentified persons at Panoor on April 16, the latest in the recurring incidents of political violence allegedly involving workers of Left parties and BJP/RSS members.

State ministers K C Joseph and K P Mohanan and local leaders of CPI-M and BJP attended the meeting.

Chennithala also said a meeting with state level leaders of both parties would be held on April 29 in Thiruvananthapuram to resolve the issues between the parties.
