Musician Ayiroor Sadasivan dies in car accident

Alappuzha: Renowned playback singer and music director Ayiroor Sadasivan died in a car accident Thursday morning. He was 78.

The accident occurred at Manakkachira, Changanassery-Alappuzha road as the car he was travelling lost control and turned turtle after hitting a divider.

Although he was rushed to the nearby hospital, he died of his injuries. His son, Sreekumar, who was at the wheels, has been injured in the accident.

The mishap occurred while they were returning to Adoor after attending a programme at Angamali.

Sadasivan, born in 1939 at Ayiroor in Pathanamthitta district, entered into the film industry by singing for the movie “Chayam.” He had since then sung several hit songs for many renowned music directors. The music of his several songs was composed by G Devarajan.

Sadasivan had worked as music director and audition committee member with Akashvani.

He is survived by his wife Radha, and two sons – Sreelal and Sreekumar.
