Local body polls can be conducted in November: Govt tells HC

Kochi: The state government has informed the High Court that the local body elections in the state can be conducted in November after completing the ward delimitation process.

The government said it would complete the ward delimitation process in 88 days to ensure a smooth completion of the local body elections.

“More officers will be appointed for the purpose,” the government submitted before the court on Tuesday.

A single judge had earlier quashed the order creating new panchayats after carving out areas of parts of the existing villages. Following it, the government filed appeals before the High Court.

In its appeal, the State government said the view of the single judge that the notification on villages could not be considered as having retrospective effect was incorrect.
