Shashi Tharoor not being isolated by anybody in Congress: Chennithala

New Delhi: Shashi Tharoor is not being "isolated" in Congress and he is part and parcel of the party, Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said Saturday, after the former Union minister wrote to party president stating that his services have "neither been seen nor appreciated".
"He (Tharoor) is not being isolated by anybody. He is part and parcel of the party... We will not accept any kind of attempt to isolate him and he is part and parcel of Congress," senior party leader Chennithala told reporters here.
His comments came in the wake of Tharoor, a Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram, complaining to party president Sonia Gandhi that his "sincere" services to the party have "neither been seen nor appreciated".
"Shashi Tharoor is an international personality... We have recognised his abilities and qualities and that is why when I was PCC president he was given a seat. I do not think anybody will isolate him. He has expressed his agony," former Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee chief Chennithala said.
Earlier in the day, Chennithala met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and appraised him about the situation in Kerala.
The Kerala Home Minister also sought establishing the coastal police headquarters in the light of increasing terror activities through the sea route and an additional reserved battalion for the state.
Asked about the activities of Islamic State terrorists in Kerala, he said, "Major problem is not in Kerala. We must be vigilant and we are doing that."
To a question on Yakub Memon's hanging, the Kerala Home Minister said that the law of the land would prevail. "That is a judicial process and there should be some kind of a deterrent. 257 people were killed and more than 1,000 people have become victims of that. So, the law of the land will prevail," he said.
Earlier, Chennithala met Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley over the issue of inordinate delay in customs clearance of cargos, which he said was causing miseries for the people from Kerala residing in the Gulf countries.
He also urged the Union Finance Minister to take steps to rein in recovery agents engaged by public sector banks to recover debts from those availing loans.
