Angamaly: Popular Malayalam film actor-turned politician Innocent Saturday said he is now free of cancer.

"I am happy to see you all. I had got sacred when I was diagnosed with cancer for the second time.I was doubtful about a comeback again. But that was a wrong thinking," the Lok Sabha MP, who is a comedian, said here.

Innocent, an independent Left party MP representing Chalakkudy constituency in the Lower House, said no elements of cancer was detected in his body in the detailed scanning conducted two days ago.

Innocent underwent treatment at All India Institute of Medical Science in Delhi after doctors advised him to continue the treatment. He used to have regular medical tests after recovering from the disease before Lok Sabha polls.

The actor also announced his complete recovery from the disease through his Facebook page. He also expressed gratitude to all who prayed for his recovery.

Kerala Government has included in a school textbook excerpts from the memoir Innocent penned when he underwent treatment for cancer in 2013-14. The memoir is titled "Cancer Wardile Chiri" (Smile at the Cancer ward).

The Malayalam comedian-turned MP had shared his experience of fighting cancer in the Lok Sabha last year.

In his speech, he had insisted that cancer could be cured if diagnosed at an early stage, a sentiment acknowledged by several Lok Sabha members and Speaker Sumitra Mahajan.

During his Zero Hour mentioning, he had made a fervent plea for launching mobile testing centres and distribution of free medicines to fight the disease.
