Govt to help ASI for safekeeping of cannon balls

Kannur: The state government would extend all helps to the Archeological Survey of India (ASI) for the safekeeping of thosands of cannon balls insided the Kannur fort, Tourism Minister A P Anilkumar has said.

More than 10,000 cannon balls, made of iron and of weights ranging from 800 gms to 10 kgs, were unearthed when workers were digging the earth for the last few days to lay a cable channel for the upcoming light and sound show at Fort St Angelo, also known as Kannur fort.

He told a press conference here today that the light and sound show slated to be held next month will not be affected in any way by the recovery of the balls and it will go on as scheduled.

He said various tourism projects are being carried out in the district at a cost of Rs 30 crore.

The projects are at various stages of completion, he added.
