Kozhikode: Sivagiri Mutt chief Swami Prakasananda Saturday reiterated his suspicion that the death of Swami Saswathikananda was a murder.

“I suspect that Saswathikananda was murdered. The killer might have hit him on his head before pushing him into the river. The body was found as if it was placed among the rock along the banks,” said Swami Prakasananda.

“The statement made by Gowriyamma regarding Swami’s death can be correct,” he said.

Swami Saswathikananda, former head of Sivagiri mutt drowned at Periyar river near Aluva in Kochi on July 1, 2002.

Kerala State Bar Hotel Onwers Association Working President Biju Ramesh had alleged that Swami had been murdered and that SNDP chief Vellapally Natesan and his son Thushar had a role in it. However, Vellapally rejected the charge.
