Thiruvananthapuram: The state government Wednesday said it has initiated a new programme 'Operation Sureksha' aimed at curbing the activities of anti-social elements, goons and mafia groups operating in the state.
Several raids were conducted in different parts of the state since the launch of the programme yesterday, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala told reporters in Thiruvananthapuram.
In the last 48 hours, 1,769 persons have been arrested from different parts of Kerala under various criminal provisions, he said.
Additional Director General of Police Arunkumar Sinha has been appointed state-level coordinator to monitor the progress of the programme, he added.
