Kochi: CBI is looking into the case relating to the arrest of four persons, including two Sub Inspectors of the Immigration department, posted at the International airport here in connection with the seizure of four kg gold worth Rs 1.1 crore.
"Depending on the role of the public servants involved in the case, we may register a case", CBI sources said.
Customs officials had yesterday arrested four persons-the two SIs-- Manu and R Krishnakumar of the state Intelligence posted at the immigration department, carrier Ijaz (19), who arrived here on Wednesday night from Dubai and a travel agency owner Rasheed of Kalady.
The two, said to be on deputation at the Immigration wing, were arrested along with two others by Customs officers after 4 kg of gold brought by Ijaz was seized on Wednesday night.
The gold was hidden in a laptop bag.
On interrogation by customs officials, Ijaz said he was asked to place the bag at a particular point at the Immigration hall on arrival. He had undertaken a similar journey on Jan 7 from Dubai.
CCTV footage of Jan 7 purportedly showed SI Manu removing the bag from the spot.
