Party worker hacked to death, CPI-M calls for hartal in Vadakara

Kozhikode: The CPI-M is observing a hartal in Vadakara taluk as one of the activists of its youth wing Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) was killed in an attack by an armed gang allegedly belonging to the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) at Thooneri near Nadapuram here at midnight on Thursday.

Chettithanamkuzhiyil Shibin, 19, died while being taken to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital.

Five other DYFI workers were critically injured in the attack carried out by the gang.

The injured were identified as Kariyattu Ragil Rajan, 20; Ishwarvalliyathu Lineesh Balan, 24; Puthalathu Akhil Rajan, 24; Meethalapillakandi Aneesh Kelappan, 27; and K. R.Rajesh, 22.

They have been admitted to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital.
