Yet another transfer for Rishiraj Singh!

Thiruvananthapuram: Rishiraj Singh IPS, who is known for his zero tolerance for corruption, has yet again come under the fury of the government. He has now been transferred as the ADGP, Armed Force Battalion.

The IPS officer made headlines several times in the past on account of his sincerity and strong stand on the corruption.

In 2006, Singh launched a drive against the manufacturers of pirated CDs of Malayalam movies. And in 2007, he was among the trio officers, the much-touted ‘black cats’, who had led ‘the Munnar Operation’ under the command of then Chief Minister V.S Achuthanandan. All this resulted in his immediate transfer.

He went for a deputation at the Centre for sometimes. After his return to his home cadre, he was assigned with a big task. He was appointed as the Transport Commissioner at the Motor Vehicles Department, which is infamous for its lackadaisical attitude and widespread corruption. After he took the charge, there has been significant reduction in the number of road accidents in the state. No wonder then that he was transferred from there too.

His new task was as the Chief Vigilance Commissioner with the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB). But, he was not ready to change his stand. He conducted raids across the state and as a result, the government received a huge amount through fines for power thefts.

The new development reportedly comes immediately after Rishiraj Singh moved against the Muthoot group for their alleged involvement in power theft in the state capital.

After reports about Singh’s transfer, many prominent persons have come out in support of him. Businessman Kochouseph Chittilappilly said in his Facebook page: “He fearlessly unearthed many frauds and saved the face and critical financial situation of electricity board. If people of Kerala doubt foul play behind his recent transfer of duty, it is justifiable!”

Meanwhile, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala in his Facebook page said Rishiraj Singh was transferred to the Armed Force Battalion on his request.

“The controversy over his transfer is unwanted and baseless,” he said.
