Safiya murder case: main accused sentenced to death

Kasargod: The district sessions court in Kasargod Thursday awarded death sentence to the accused in the Safiya murder case.

K.C. Hamsa, 52, the main accused in the case, was sentenced to death. A fine of Rs 10 lakh was also slapped on him. The amount would be given to Safiya's family.

The third accused Maimuna was sentenced to six years in jail and slapped with a fine of Rs 10,000, while the fourth accused M. Abdulla would have to serve three years in jail.

Safiya was only 14-year-old when she was murdered seven years ago. She was working as domestic help at the residence of Hamsa, a leading contractor in Goa, at Bovikanam in Kasaragod.
