Thiruvananthapuram: CPI-M politburo member Pinarayi Vijayan Thursday rejected Congress mouthpiece Veekshanam daily’s editorial asking the CPI to quit the LDF coalition against the backdrop of the Aruvikkara by-election results.

“The congress mouthpiece’s editorial on the Aruvikkara election results is ridiculous as the Communist Party of India (CPI) has already made their stand clear,” Pinarayi told reporters.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said the Congress was keen to invite the CPI to the UDF fold.

“The views expressed in the Veekshanam daily’s editorial are not part of the policy or decision of the Congress party. But we are keen to invite the CPI at a time when secularism is under threat,” he said.

Terming the LDF as a sinking ship, Veekshanam daily, in its editorial on Thursday, said the CPI should have the prudence to recognise that the poll outcome in Aruvikkara as a warning.
