Thiruvananthapuram: The State government has decided to prepare a list of quarries in the district to ensure availability of granite for the ambitious Rs 7,500 crore Vizhinjam international deep water seaport project, whose work is scheduled to begin here on November 1.

Besides this, government would also consider the chances of bringing in granite from other states, an official release said.

A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting here today, presided by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, it said.

Chandy said about 90 per cent of the land acquisition process for the project had been completed and the rest of the land would be acquired soon after settling disputes.

Hoteliers in the area who agreed to give their land for the project would be given fair packages. The District Collector would soon take steps for deserving fisherfolk who would be rehabilitated as part of the project, he said.

Adani Port officials, who took part in the meeting, demanded development of approach roads leading to Vizhinjam.

Ministers K Babu, Adoor Prakash and V S Sivakumar, Vizhinjam Port Company MD Suresh Babu, Adani Group official S C Mahapatra and top officials of revenue, port and National Highway departments also took part in the meeting, it said.
