Kochi: The secretary of the home department has sought a report from the DGP on the controversy over a Facebook photo of Ernakulam Assistant Superintendent of Police Merin Joseph, IPS, with actor Nivin Pauly.

Merin Joseph, an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of Kerala cadre, had recently hogged the limelight after her photograph with Malayalam film industry's rising star Nivin Pauly went viral on social media. She posted the photo titled - "with Nivin Pauly...The current sensation in Kerala"- on her Facebook page.

Media reports had criticised the young Indian Police Service officer for uploading a photo taken when she was in uniform.

Reacting to the controversy, the IPS officer wrote on her Facebook page later that she did not react on the matter as she does not react to non-issues.

"I am pointing out that the pic was taken by MLA Hibi Eden after securing his consent and that too, during a lighter moment of laughter over a shared joke," said Merin.
