Thiruvananthapuram: Former Union Minister O. Rajagopal Wednesday filed nomination as the BJP candidate for the bypoll to Aruvikkara constituency.

Rajagopal, who reached at the Collectorate along with the party men, filed his papers before the returning officer.

The veteran BJP leader had unsuccessfully contested the 2014 Lok Sabha polls from Thiruvananthapuram and finished second behind Congress's Shashi Tharoor. He has been a former minister in the Vajpayee government in 1999.

Polling for the Assembly constituency will be held on June 27 and the counting of votes will be done on June 30.
