Thiruvananthapuram: Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala on Tuesday sought amendment of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act saying the drug mafia makes use of the loopholes in the Act to evade punishment.
“The Act should be amended to rein in the drug mafia. The State government had requested the Centre to bring in appropriate changes in the law,” Chennithala said here while talking to media persons on reports that ganja mafia is strengthening its grip in some of the districts like Idukki.
The minister added that the drug mafia was trying to make use of the government’s decision to close down bars across the state.
