5 gold bars seized at Mangaluru airport, Keralite held

Mangaluru: Five gold bars worth about Rs 15.26 lakh were Tuesday seized at the international airport here with one person having been arrested in this connection.

"We have seized five gold bars each weighing 10 tolas and valued at Rs 15,25,330. These were brought by a passenger who arrived from Dubai. He was arrested later," customs officials said.

The accused had brought the bars by concealing them under the seat of the Jet Airways flight in which he had flown from Dubai to Mangaluru, they said.

The passenger has been identified as Abdul Khader Kunjamu and hails from Kasaragod in Kerala, they said. He was produced before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate and remanded in custody.
