Thiruvananthapuram: The state government Monday termed as 'baseless' reports in a section of media that it has decided to increase the retirement age of government employees from 56 to 58 years.
Reacting to the reports, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said the news that has appeared in some newspapers that the Chief Minister has given approval to the proposal to increase the retirement age of the state government employees was baseless.
"No decision has been taken in this direction. Decision in this matter will be taken only after discussions and attaining consensus from youth organizations', Chandy said.
Youth outfits of all political parties in the state had opposed the idea of hiking reitrement age of government staff further holding that it would adversely affect the job prospects of youths.
The present Congress led UDF government had increased the retirement age from 55 to 56 after it came to power in 2011.
