Thiruvananthapuram: The State government on Tuesday transferred Inspector General of Police T J Jose who was caught for allegedly copying in a university examination, from Thrissur range and ordered a crime branch probe into the incident.

Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala's office said that further action would be initiated after getting reports of crime branch probe and also the ongoing inquiry into the incident by a sub-committee of Mahatama Gandhi University.

Taking a serious note of the incident, Chennithala had earlier asked him to proceed on compulsory leave.

The top police official was transferred based on the report of north zone ADGP N Shankar Reddy, who conducted a preliminary probe into incident. Though he was transferred, no posting has been given.

The decision to shift him was taken after Chennithala held a discussion with Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, the sources said.

Jose was caught while copying on May 4 during the second-year exam held at St Paul’s College, Kalamassery in Kochi, the off-campus centre for LLM Course of the M G University.

Jose had rejected the charges against him and said a conspiracy had been hatched to tarnish his image.
