Veteran Congress leader Nafeesath Beevi laid to rest

Thiruvananthapuram: Veteran Congress leader and former Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, A Nafeesath Beevi, who died on Monday was laid to rest Tuesday evening.

She was 91 and is survived by a son and 3 daughters.

A large number of Congress workers and relatives gathered to bid her tearful adieu at the Palayam Jumma masjid.

Earlier, the body was taken to the KPCC office here where party workers paid rich tributes.

Beevi became a member of the assembly in 1960 by defeating fiery Marxist leader T V Thomas from Alapuzha.

She was the Deputy Speaker from March 1960-sept 1964. She was also KPCC executive member.

She had actively participated in the freedom struggle and had undergone imprisonment.
