Malappuram: The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) on Saturday demanded that the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) be repealed immediately.

Muslim League national secretary E T Muhammed Basheer MP, at a press conference here, said that all the cases filed under the UAPA should be subjected to judicial review.

The League veteran sought compensation for the acquitted 17 persons, including four Keralites, after seven years of imprisonment, in the Hubli conspiracy case.

“The accused in the Hubli case lost seven long years for an offence they did not commit. The government should give them compensation for that loss,” Basheer said adding “the Muslim League has always taken firm stand against the UAPA in the Parliament.”

He added that the Muslim League will cooperate with the similar-minded political and human rights outfits against the Act.
