Kozhikode: Muslim League, the biggest ally of the Congress in the UDF government, has demanded a CBI investigation into the corruption allegations associated with the public sector firm Malabar Cements Limited (MCL).

Talking to the media on Wednesday, the party’s general secretary KPA Majeed said that the remarks of the Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan seeking a probe into the corruption allegations related to the Malabar Cements should be taken into consideration.

“A CBI investigation should be ordered into the case as the issue is really serious,” the League leader said.

Mentioning CPI-M leader E P Jayarajan’s remarks, Majeed said the CPI-M was in distress over its failure to topple the UDF government in the State. “That is what is evident in his comment that his party would co-operate with the League if it manages to derail the present government.”

“The CPI-M is now after the League as its efforts to get the Janata Dal (U) and RSP on board failed miserably,” he added.

CPI-M veteran V.S Achuthanandan had on Tuesday sought a probe into the graft allegations raised against former Industries Minister and CPI-M Central Committee member Elamaram Kareem related to the Malabar Cements corruption case.
