Thiruvananthapuram: CPI-M veteran and opposition leader in the assembly V S Achuthanandan Saturday cancelled his campaign programmes for the coming civic polls following fever and cough.

The 92-year-old leader was scheduled to attend a series of campaigns at Kottayam district today and in Pathanamthitta district tomorrow, party sources said.

Achuthanandan, who is the star campaigner for the CPI-M led LDF for the two phased civic polls scheduled for November 2 and 5, addressed poll meetings in northern Kerala in the last few days.

After completing his hectic poll campaigns in Palakkad Friday, the Marxist veteran returned to state capital Saturday morning following illness, the sources said.
