Munnar: Pombilai Orumai leader Gomathy Augustin has allegedly attempted suicide by consuming overdose of tablets on Friday morning.

Gomathy was rushed to a nearby hospital. She was later shifted to the Munnar General Hospital. She is being treated in the intensive care unit and her condition is stated to be stable.

Meanwhile, her husband Augustine told reporters that she attempted suicide due to widespread allegations raised against her.

Gomathi Augustine, who won from the Devikulam block panchayat division in the election to the local bodies, was at the forefront of the workers agitation at Munnar plantations recently.
