Thiruvananthapuram: Six opposition MLAs have been named as accused by the Crime branch in the case relating to destruction of public property during the violence in the Kerala assembly on March 13 this year during budget presentation.

"The six MLAs have been named as accused in the FIR filed by the Crime branch before the Thiruvananthapuram First Class Judicial Magistrate court', Crime branch sources said.

The FIR was submitted as per the directives of Kerala High Court.

The MLAs named in the FIR are CPI(M)'s E P Jayarajan, V Sivankutty, C K Sadasivan, K Kunjahmed, K Ajith and left Independent K T Jaleel. They had been suspended for allegedly vandalising the Speaker's dais in the assembly.

The FIR was filed on the complaint by the Secretary of the State Legislative assembly on destruction of public property worth Rs two lakh during the mayhem when the Speaker's chair was toppled by the MLAs and computers destroyed.

Meanwhile, the assembly Speaker N Shakthan said he was not aware of the FIR against the six MLAs.

Reacting to the development, Jayarajan said the government's effort was to 'fix' them in the case.

A petition had also been filed in the Kerala High Court seeking a directive to the police to proceed with the complaint filed by the Secretary of the State Legislative assembly in connection with the violence.
