Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition leader V.S Achuthanandan Saturday said the results of the local body election were a setback for the UDF government in the state.

“The poll outcome is a slap on the face of chief minister Oommen Chandy who is leading a ‘corrupt’ government. They will obviously face further consequences in the upcoming Assembly election,” Achuthanandan told reporters.

"The people have given a fitting reply to the corrupt ways of this government. The minority appeasing politics (was) played by Chandy, besides the anti-people policies that he has been following. It's only the Left that can...prevent the emergence of fascist forces and hence people have voted us," said the CPI(M) veteran.

“The BJP-SNDP tie-up has not made any impact in Kerala. That means the real followers of Sree Narayana Guru have dismissed the BJP-Vellappally alliance,” he said.

“The LDF could make significant gains in the UDF strongholds in Malappuram, Wayanad and Idukki districts. The defeat of RSP in Kollam and the Janata Dal in Wayanad should play as a retrospect for their political stance,” he said.
